Classic Beef Lasagna Sauce (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meat Sauce

01 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
02 - 1 medium onion, finely chopped
03 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
04 - 1 pound ground beef
05 - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
06 - 1 teaspoon dried basil
07 - 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
08 - 1 teaspoon sugar
09 - Salt and pepper to taste

→ Cheese Mixture

10 - 15 oz ricotta cheese
11 - 1 large egg
12 - 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
13 - 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
14 - ¼ teaspoon salt
15 - ¼ teaspoon pepper

→ Pasta and Toppings

16 - 12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
17 - Additional mozzarella cheese for topping

# Instructions:

01 - Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion until translucent.
02 - Add minced garlic and ground beef; cook until browned.
03 - Stir in oregano, basil, crushed tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until thickened.
04 - In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, egg, half of the Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and set aside.
05 - Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
06 - Spread a layer of tomato sauce in the bottom of the baking dish. Layer 4 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
07 - Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Add a layer of mozzarella and more sauce.
08 - Repeat layering twice more, ending with noodles and remaining sauce on top. Sprinkle with additional mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
09 - Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
10 - Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish as desired.
